The Plague-Ridden Village

The acrid tang of plague rot and burnt sulfur clings to the frayed cuffs of your traveler’s robes as you halt ten paces from Oakhaven’s splintered oak gates.

Two guards, their gaunt cheeks streaked with black fever spots, grip rusted spears so tight their knuckles blanch, leveling the points directly at your chest.

Their eyes dart from your pointed dark elf ears to the glowing silver holy symbol emblazoned on your tunic, twisted by equal parts terror of the monster of Underdark folktales and raw desperation at the wails of sick villagers drifting over the wooden palisade.

A low, warm echo hums through your mind—the Voice of the One True God, urging you to step forward and mend what festers, both in the village’s infected bodies and the guards’ frightened, distrustful hearts.

The lead guard shouts, his voice cracking with fever and fear, “Stay back, fiend!We won’t let you drag any more of our people to your mother’s cursed halls!”

Expend a small amount of divine energy to manifest a miracle, healing the lead guard's fever spots to prove your holy intent
Speak calmly to the guards, preaching the Word of the One True God and explaining you have come to slay the demon causing the plague to win their trust
Summon a wisp of non-harmful holy light to knock the lead guard's spear aside, slowly pushing past the gates to enter the village despite their protests

It has been months since I left the Underdark, I have been called by the one true God. I hear his voice. I have always heard it. My mother the dark elf queen with her rituals and my sisters with their hedonistic pleasures had never swayed me from what the voice told me. They could have killed me anytime but they didn’t. Now, now I am on my way to fight the demons, traveling town to town and speaking the word of the one true God.

You arrive at the gates of Oakhaven, a settlement choked by a supernatural miasma. The guards at the gate level their spears at you, trembling not just from the plague, but at the sight of a dark elf walking openly under the sun. The Voice urges you to enter and cleanse the rot. How do you convince them to let you pass?
