The Grand Prix Final Warm-upThe chill of the rink seeps through your thermal leggings as you push off your first glide, the sharp hiss of your skate blades cutting through the thin layer of frost coating the pristine ice.
The crowd’s roar softens to a low, thrumming background noise as you tune into the rhythm of the rink: other skaters’ breath pluming in the cold air, the distant crackle of the announcer’s mic, the arena’s speakers blaring a mashup of all the finalists’ program tracks, and your coach’s quiet whistle from the sidelines.
You spot Kirill Deyagin flip a lazy cross-foot spin mid-ice, cackling as he nearly clips Mira Kamilova, who’s lingering by the boards, thumb worrying the edge of her glittered skate guard as she refreshes her TikTok feed for the tenth time in a minute.
Anton Voronin calls out a reminder to stretch your landing leg before you attempt any big jumps, his steady voice cutting through the warm-up chaos.
You have five minutes left to use this ice however you need to lock in your routine for the biggest competition of your season.
- Head to the far end of the rink to drill your inconsistent signature quad jump to work out kinks before your program
- Pull Mira aside to check in and calm her nerves before the warm-up period ends
- Stay near the sidelines to walk through your full program's choreography timing with your coach
